Plaza Mayor of Trujillo

Trujillo reached its splendor in the 15th and 16th centuries. When visiting " La Villa ", we marvel at a well-preserved fortified medieval city. No visit is complete without a trip to “ Santa Maria la Mayor ”, a church with an altarpiece consisting of 25 paintings by Fernando Gallego, a famous Flamenco painter.

It is here that we will also find monuments and castles such as Alcazar de los Altamirano , Alcazar de los Bejaranos , and of course, the famous Alcazaba ; or a public bath from the Roman period, La Alberca romana ; or even an underground water tank, and the Church of Santiago.

Trujillo's main square, Plaza Mayor, is surrounded by colonnades in which you will find the traditional market where vendors sells bread, vegetables (where our inn is located), cloth, meat and linen.

The main square is surrounded by palaces such as Piedras Albas (15 th century) and Palacio de la Conquista , which is a palace that was built by the daughter of the conqueror, Francisca Pizarra Yupanqui, on land that belonged to the Pizarro family; you will also find the palace of San Carlos, the Church of San Martín, and La casa de las Cadenas (literally "chains", given the name due to the chains found above the doors).
